Born the fifth child in an actor/artist family in North Hollywood, California, Emma’s siblings appeared in many successful television sitcoms and commercials during the 1980s, including Family Ties, Growing Pains, Different Strokes, Silver Spoons, and The Wonder Years (Rachel Jacobs, Christian Jacobs, Parker Jacobs and Tyler Jacobs). Named Emma Lee Jane Jacobs of Rebecca Richards and Kimball Lee Jacobs, she took the name Penrose after her maternal grandmother Laura Mae Penrose.

Emma’s first experience in a professional recording studio was singing back up vocals for The Aquabats! album Floating Eye of Death in 1999. She is the voice and character dancer of Foofa on Yo Gabba Gabba! which first aired in 2007. She graduated with a Bachelors in Science from Brigham Young University in 2008 and is trained in varying forms of dance and singing. She married Jed Briggs in 2008 and is sometimes credited as Emma Jacobs Briggs. They have two children.

She splits time between Park City, Utah and Los Angeles voicing projects for major companies and different platforms-television, radio, internet, videogames, toys, apps, elearning, explainer, promos, trailers, as well as appearing onscreen. Emma performs in The Timpanogos Valley Belvederes improv troupe. She is lead singer for indie rock band Sleep City Roar.
